As a non-profit with expanded mission of STEM outreach, we are Columbia Training Centers, closing the loop on this legacy of black aviation. In 1941 an intrepid group of African-American aviators set out to realize their dreams of flight. The Cloud Club was born as well as the first African-American owned and operated airfield in the US along the Patuxent River in Prince George’s County, MD. From 1941-1954 John Greene and Tuskegee Airmen Herbert Jones, Jr. operated the airport under the name Columbia Air Center. Herbert Jones Jr. continued the legacy. Col. (Ret) George London assumed leadership of the flight school as H.J. Aviation in honor of Herb Jones.
